Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and sophisticated laboratory procedures throughout training period. May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. Analyzes and interprets data. Not responsible for generating grant funds.
Under the direction of Dr. Xunzhang Wang, Director of the Complex Ablation Lab, you will conduct ongoing research on the role of sophisticated heart rhythm disorders, catheter ablation, mapping of arrhythmias, and innovative techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease, specifically in determinants and outcome of treatment for patients with complex arrhythmias . Training will be focused on investigating and understanding these mechanisms through review of intra-cardiac images, optical mapping, chart review, and data analysis of patients presenting in the Electrophysiology Section of Cardiology in the Smidt Heart Institute. Assists in preparation of grant proposals and participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author, as well as keeping appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyzation of results with the Principal Investigator. The Post Doc will analyze, interpret, summarize and compile data.
The appointee will meet with their mentor, Dr. Wang, once per month in person in his office. During these monthly meetings there will be discussions regarding the progression of research projects and any environmental concerns the postdoc fellow may have.
- Week 1-2: orientation, and overview of research area, introduction to the team
- Week 3-4: Introduction to the research and electrophysiology section of the department
- Months 2-8:in ongoing chart review and review of intra-cardiac images
- Months 8-12: Learn how to read and analyze literature, learn basic data analysis, understand the process on preparation of grant proposals, publications and presentations.
Required Education & Experience
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must have a HS Diploma or GED.
• Must reside in the greater Los Angeles area or surrounding cities while conducting all activities related to the intern or visitor appointment.
• VISITORS: Must be receiving funding from an eligible sponsoring institution (employer, educator, funder, etc.).
