Position Title: Research Intern or Visiting Student
Department: Department of Medicine, Cedars-Sinai Cancer

Department and Research Area Overview:

The Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Cancer focuses on developing and applying multidisciplinary approaches to better treat and care for cancer patients. Dr. Arsen Osipov’s laboratory investigates mechanisms of pancreas tumor biology with a particular emphasis on identifying cellular and molecular signals that drive disease resistance and progression. His research integrates immunohistologic and genomic techniques to better define the components of the tumor microenvironment and uncover novel therapeutic strategies.

Role Summary & Objectives:

This role offers a unique opportunity to learn methods for investigating pancreas tumor biology. The incumbent will be trained in a range of techniques, including immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining and genomic analysis of patient-derived samples. Through these methods, the candidate will help identify specific cell types and signals within the tumor microenvironment that contribute to resistance mechanisms.

The ultimate objective is to aid in developing novel therapeutic strategies to improve outcomes for pancreas cancer patients. The role is designed to foster collaboration, education, and training for a future career in cancer research and/or clinical care.

Role Activities & Timeline:

Activity Timeline:

  • Weekly:

    • Present laboratory results at lab meetings every Wednesday.

    • Present progress at Tuesday clinical research meetings.

    • Meet individually with Dr. Osipov each Monday for mentoring, progress review, and guidance on future experiments.

  • Summer of 2025:

    • Perform weekly IHC staining, analysis, and presentation of results.

    • Develop skills in identifying cellular components of pancreas tumors and understanding their role in disease progression.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.

  • Must reside in the greater Los Angeles area or surrounding cities while conducting all activities related to the internship or visitor appointment.

  • Interns: Those participating for academic credit must be enrolled in a program that will award credit for the duration of their internship.

  • Visitors: Must be receiving funding from an eligible sponsoring institution (such as their education institution, workplace, or a funding agency).
